911.gov, the National 911 Program administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has issued a press release about this week’s meeting on the topic of improved CPR practices. The meeting was attended by a combination of EMS and 911 professionals to develop tools and recommendations around the shared consensus that both Telecommunicator-assisted CPR and High-Performance CPR make a significant difference in outcomes for patients suffering sudden cardiac arrest. The contribution to the development of 9-1-1 in the United States, made by the founder of PowerPhone, Phil Salafia was recently referenced in the The Call magazine produced by NENA. Phil, a former Connecticut State Trooper saw the need for improved training for 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers in order to better prioritize calls through structured questioning. PowerPhone’s Director of Training, Dr. Gary Moore PhD, will be presenting at the 2018 South Carolina Emergency Care Symposium on the subject of Young Stroke. The symposium is titled Young Stroke: Realigning Field Training with Field Experience. Dr. Moore will be joined by Amy Edmunds, a faculty member at Coastal Carolina University, young stroke survivor and founder of YoungStroke, a 501c(3) patient advocacy organization.
